In Australia we have a great tradition of recognising contributions of our sports stars. The Clive Churchill medal is awarded to the best player in the NRL Grand Final. The AFL present the Norm Smith medal to the ‘Best on Ground’. This year we have started what we hope will be an ongoing Safer Together tradition of recognising a Working Group member for their contribution. Although the award does not yet have an official name – we’re hoping that it will be called "Best and Fairest".

More than 300 Helping Hands Making a Difference in the Developing World

Since the launch of Helping Hands – Hand and Finger Preservation Program, Safer Together members have purchased more than 300 prosthetic hand kits. After these kits are assembled during our unique hand and finger safety awareness activity, these kits are donated to amputee landmine victims in the developing world.

Keynote speaker Lincoln Eldridge challenged DCIIRP participants to think differently about learning from incidents. After an incident, those who seek to learn have the benefit of perfect clarity in their understanding of the incident consequence. However, those who were involved in the activity prior to the incident don’t have the same advantage. They cannot see the future with the same clarity afforded by those with hindsight. Lincoln proposed an alternate way of learning from incidents.

On 7 November Origin Energy hosted the 3rd Safer Together Process Safety Incident Review Workshop. Aimed at front-line staff including operators and maintenance workers, as well as engineers and others interested in process safety, the event gathered over 60 representatives at the Binda Nalkana Regional Training Centre in Condabri.
