On 31 May 2017, Safer Together and DrillSafe ran a joint DCIIRP/DrillSafe/DrillWell Forum in Brisbane. More than 100 representatives of companies from the drilling and completions community in Queensland gathered with their colleagues from all around Australia to hear presentations from Operators and Contractors about recent incidents and to share lessons learnt. In addition, several presentations focused on innovations to improve safety in the industry.

In the 12 months to August 2016, 4 of 7 recordable injuries sustained by Santos’ Drilling and Completions activities involved hands and fingers. Savanna Rig 65 was about to enter service for Santos. It was important to engage the rig crew during mobilisation to raise awareness of the incidence of hand injuries – and to explore what could be done to minimise them.
