Health Matters is a place where you can find help to address health and mental health issues. It’s also a place where you can help your work mates by sharing what you’re doing to manage health and mental health issues in your workplace.
Safer Together dedicates this site to Gavin Slavin and his daughter Rebecca. Sharing their story is a true example of the core safety behaviours that we want to see in our industry - “Be Mindful. Be Credible. Take Action. Speak Up.”
Gavin Slavin works on Origin Energy’s BassGas production team on the offshore Yolla Platform. Gavin’s daughter Rebecca was caught in a spiral of domestic violence and drug abuse. Gavin turned to his manager Mat Quinn and his Origin family for help. Watch his moving story to see how work and family combined to bring Gavin, Rebecca and the Slavin family back together.
On behalf of our member companies, we thank Gavin and Rebecca for their bravery and wish them, and their family, the very best for a healthy future.
QRC Mental Health and Wellbeing Toolkit
Queensland Resources Council (QRC) Mental Health and Wellbeing Toolkit supports QRC’s Blueprint for Mental Health and Wellbeing. The purpose of the toolkit is to provide links to various resources to assist organisations to implement and develop their own mental health and wellbeing programs.
Safer Together is proud to collaborate with QRC to provide access to materials that will help manage mental health issues in our Industry.
The Office of Industrial Relations Queensland – Workplace Health and Safety, SuperFriend and WorkCover Queensland, have formed LeadingWell Queensland to support Queensland workplaces to build and maintain mentally healthy workplaces – for every worker, every organisation, every day.
The collaboration is working together to create thriving workplaces, as well as positive and supportive work cultures and environments, by focusing on strategic leadership events, access to practical tools and resources, and sharing best practice information and benchmarks.
Working in a Hot Environment
Working in Queensland’s summer heat is a worker health hazard that needs to be managed carefully. As such, Safer Together has published a Management of Heat Stress Guideline. It is hoped that there will be a progressive adoption of the Guideline, resulting in a consistent and robust approach to managing heat stress across our industry, and better management of this risk. A Comms Pack has also been published to assist with implementation and roll-out of the Guideline.
Safer Together members can download Safety Moment and Toolbox Talk materials about health and mental health. Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any materials that you would like us to share on our website.
Fitness to Work Medical Assessment Guideline
Safer Together is preparing a Guideline to help member companies to set up Fitness to Work medical assessments and associated processes. It is hoped that this Guideline will promote a consistent, efficient and cost effective industry approach which will, in turn, lead to improved health across the workforce. Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like to find out more about this initiative.
APGA Fatigue Management Guidelines
A fatigue management study was undertaken at the QCLNG Export Pipeline Project. The study built on previous research to assess the impact on workers of the 28-days-on-nine-days-off cycle and use of fatigue mitigation factors. The APGA Fatigue Management Guidelines were produced from the study.
Safer Together is proud to collaborate with APGA to provide access to materials that will help to effectively address fatigue in our Industry.
