Here’s the story of how Arrow Energy implemented a program of two-yearly periodic Fitness To Work (FTW) medicals for their workforce, aimed at improving management of health and reducing the occurrence of Fitness To Work health-related severe and fatal events. The program has gone through two major cycles, and mirrors the approach set out in the Safer Together FTW Medical Assessment Guideline.

A high proportion of Arrow Energy’s staff work in remote locations, some distance and time away from sophisticated medical facilities and rapid emergency response. Arrow required all staff to do a pre-employment Fitness To Work medical, but historically there was no follow-up program of regular review.

Contain It Hazard Awareness training is going live on 31 May at ERGT’s training facility in Jandakot, Perth, WA. The course is an interactive and practical training session for energy and resources personnel in WA to experience the first-hand effects of hydrocarbon releases in a safe and controlled environment.
Now Available: Offshore Vessel Deck Water Management Specification

One of the key risks that presents the most significant consequences to operators on the back decks of offshore vessels is ‘green water’ entering the deck that can cause deck cargo to move, wash vessel crew off their feet, and potentially cause fatal injuries. The Marine Working Group has developed an Offshore Vessel Deck Water Management Specification on the management of this risk through the use of vessel selection and additional technology that can be used on the vessel stern to manage water flow when it cannot be fully excluded. Safer Together’s Aviation Working Group organised a 90 minute webinar on Fatigue Management in late April that brought together representatives from the Land Logistics, Marine and Aviation industry sectors of the Australian oil and gas industry to explore the challenges of, and approaches used to manage fatigue. The event also included a keynote speech from a renowned expert in the field of sleep science.
