In 2024, 'getting involved' looks like a full room of energy industry representatives at this year’s Industry Safety Forum (ISF) in Darwin. With a full day of activities in the top end, the Safer Together Industry Safety Forum was an afternoon set aside to explore the theme of “Get Involved”.

Our polished and generous MC Cassy Schmidt (President, Energy Club NT) opened the event with an acknowledgement of country, and providing a summary of what was to come on the day.

Cassy handed over to Glenn Watt (VP Upstream Qld/NSW, Santos), who’s presentation, “Get Involved” – was a very personal reflection on what getting involved with Safer Together means to him in the many years of his involvement.  Glenn told a compelling story, with real conviction and passion, a Senior Leader in our industry who ‘walks the walk’ when it comes to keeping everyone in our industry safe.

After the first of three breakout sessions that had delegates split up into three smaller groups for detailed briefings on:

  1. Frontline HSER Engagement Breakout – Presented by: Jenna Frzop (Senior HSE Adviser, INPEX), Lindsay Gerrard (HSER, INPEX), Natalie Martinovich, (COO, Lifeline WA), Nick Webster (OHS Specialist Regulatory Operations – Decommissioning Safety, NOPSEMA), Joseph Aparis (HSER, INPEX) and Shane Glover (HSER, Monadelphous).
  2. Health Vitals Breakout – Presented by:  Anna MacFarlane (INPEX), Ellary Broun (Woodside), Melissa Day (Arrow Energy) & Lauren Baggoley (Santos)
  3. Assist & Assure Breakout – Presented by:  Alex Farah (HSE Lead, Shell), Brayden Crain (General Manager, Contract Resources), supported in the room by A&A Training Facilitator Blair Hart (HSB Resources).

Returning to the ISF, Cassy, along with Dave Dann (GM Onshore Operations, INPEX) and Deborah Peach (Executive GM, Cleanaway) hosted a discussion panel ‘Everyone Has a Role to Get Involved’.

Later in the afternoon Gemma Mackett (Director, PCM Group) and Steve Williams (Safer Together) discussed the latest developments from the 2024-2026 Strategic Plan, going through WA/NT’s high priority products and programs that our Working Groups will focus on.

In the wrap up to the day we asked the audience for their commitment to "get involved”; with the answer a resounding ‘yes’.

Cassy returned to wrap up the event before we all retired to a post-event function.

We would like to acknowledge the incredible support provided by Jeremy Campbell-Wray (Regional Growth Director, Baker-Hughes) during the planning phase of this event.

CareFlight Site Visit

For our final Industry Safety Forum-related event, member CareFlight hosted us at their Northern Operations Hangar in Darwin for a comprehensive and fascinating tour of their assets and facilities, and for a small taster of their training capacity as an RTO.

Thanks to the CareFlight staff for giving us their time and sharing their knowledge with the delegates in attendance; we are all richer for the experience.

A truly fascinating insight into an incredible company delivering compassionate, knowledgeable, and timely care to people in our community when it is most needed.

Thanks to Mick Frewen, Kylie Pike, Jodie Mills and the rest of the CareFlight Northern Operations team for their generous facilitation of this visit.

We are Stronger and Safer Together.
