Taking advantage of our industry’s Safety Leaders gathering in Darwin on 12th June, our WA/NT Health Working Group held a morning event that provided delegates with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with a range of tools developed by the Group.
Abigail McPherson (Monadelphous) opened the session, introducing the Health Working Group and explaining what the Health Vitals session would provide, and an overview of the key topics that the Working Group are working on currently.
Anna MacFarlane (INPEX), then presented on behalf of the Fatigue Project Team, explaining the current proposal of 3 deliverables designed to assist Safer Together members in this space:
- A matrix that summarises existing Industry regulation and guidance on Fatigue Risk Management
- An individual Fatigue Risk Assessment
- Fatigue Toolbox talks, training and awareness materials for the frontline workforce
Anna asked for feedback from members in attendance, as to whether they endorsed the need and use of such deliverables – prompting much discussion.
Ellary Broun (Woodside) clarified the definitions of terms associated with psychosocial/psychological safety.
Melissa Day (Arrow Energy) & Lauren Baggoley (Santos) presented the newly-released On-site Accommodation Psychosocial Health and Safety Guideline, launching the Guideline to members in WA/NT. Their presentation included in detail the objective, the content, and the potential users of the Guideline.
Melissa & Lauren also ran through an example with the participants on how they might use the Guideline in their workplace.
Jessica Press (Chevron) presented on Safer Together’s Fitness to Work Medical Assessment Guideline (FTW MAG) – she emphasised the benefits of deployment, in terms of standardisation of medicals across the operator workforce, and the benefits to contractors by doing so. Jessica also advised that the FTW MAG would be reviewed (estimated) Q3 2024 and take into account all comments and feedback received.
Health Breakout Sessions
During the Industry Safety Forum, an opportunity was provided to the Working Group to Summarise the morning’s presentations by Anna, Ellary, Lauren & Melissa, during the Health Vitals Breakout sessions in the afternoon. The key objective of these sessions was to ensure awareness of the topics currently being worked on by our Health Working Group, to allow an opportunity for questions and feedback from Senior Leaders, and to gauge members support of the upcoming fatigue-related initiatives.
