In July 2026, our Industry Safety Induction (ISI) had its 10th anniversary since becoming standardised for new starts in the Australian Energy Production Industry and being delivered to thousands of participants Australia-wide. With the newest upgrade of course materials now incorporating the fundamentals of Assist & Assure for Frontline Workers, the ISI is now fit for the future of our industry.
The Industry Safety Induction is a 1-day training course. All new starts shall satisfactorily complete the Industry Safety Induction prior to working on the development or operation of onshore or offshore facilities in the Australian Energy Production Industry (a new start is defined as anyone who has not worked in the Australian Energy Production Industry for at least 12 months in the last 2 years).
Behaviour is at heart of every safety decision we make. By completing the ISI, every industry new start gains an understanding of the strong and shared safety culture expectations placed up on them by our industry.
The ISI is designed to:
- Give HSE awareness of all personnel in the Australian Energy Production Industry to enable them to carry out their duties in the safest manner possible, thereby improving safety performance,
- Define the standard of safe working behaviours that is expected of all personnel in our industry, and
- Drive consistency in how we communicate with new starts in the industry about safety culture and how we manage the risks associated.
Commencing in August 2026 – and following feedback from our members - every new start completing the ISI will learn the fundamentals of Assist & Assure Frontline Awareness Training, which has now been incorporated into the ISI course content, with representatives from our Worker Competence and Rig Site Safety Working Groups collaborating on the project.
Incorporating the fundamentals of Assist & Assure will help ISI participants to embrace the foundations of safe systems of work and ways to proactively identify and mitigate risk in work preparation and execution - on the commencement of any task. This integration further enhances informed engagement from new starts, laying the foundation for worthwhile participation in toolbox talks, pre-start meetings and enabling engaging and effective safety conversations.
