Our Heavy Vehicle Specification and Light Vehicle Specification have been updated.  Previously these documents only applied in Queensland.  Their scope is now intended to apply across the entire Australian Onshore Energy Production Industry.  The Specifications also now align with IOGP and address technology changes relating to fatigue management software.

Safer Together is committed to preventing harm to our frontline workers.  As such, we were deeply saddened to learn of a fatal motor vehicle incident that occurred on the afternoon of 10th September 2024 in Qld.

Over the past 10 years, motor vehicle events remain the most frequent type of potentially fatal events occurring in our industry.

When we look at events that have resulted in harm to people over this same period – we see that vehicle accidents that result in harm occur considerably less often than other types of incidents.  However, when they do occur, they have much greater consequences than any other type of event.

It is clear that land transport remains one of the most significant risks in our Industry.  It is therefore critical that Safer Together continues working to address these risks.  In 2024 our Land Transport and Land Logistics Working Groups updated our Heavy Vehicle and Light Vehicle Specifications.  Revisions to both documents have now been released for nation-wide implementation.

Key changes include:

  • Addressing changes in legislation, moving away from ANCAP toward Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and an international benchmark: IOGP 365 Land Transportation Safety Practice.
  • Providing guidance on the application of fatigue monitoring equipment.

In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems (IVMS) and other vehicle monitoring technologies (including fatigue monitoring equipment) provide leading indicators and intervention opportunities aimed at adjusting driving behaviours to.  These interventions demonstrably prevent incidents involving motor vehicles.  In some instances, installing these technologies exceeds legislated requirements.   However, after extensive consultation across our Industry, our Senior Leaders agree that investment in these technologies justified
