Our Health Working Group (HWG) was provided with an opportunity to engage the Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine (ANZSOM) with a presentation on the implementation of the Fitness to Work (FTW) – Medical Assessment Guideline (MAG), "Safer Together:  The Standardisation of Medicals Across the Australian Energy Industry".

ANZSOM is the professional society for those who practice or have an interest in the fields of occupational medicine, occupational nursing and workplace health more generally.

They seek to advance the knowledge, practice and standing of occupational health by providing opportunities for professional development, networking and partnerships – with this presentation providing the working group the opportunity to outline the key objectives of the FTW medical, and answered questions related to the implementation and sign-off of the medical.

Presenting on behalf of the Working Group was Jessica Press (Occupational Health Specialist, Health & Medical Team, Chevron Australia) and Dennis Murphy (Principal Health Advisor, Resile) to an audience of over 70 medical providers (doctors, nurses and specialists) from the Australia-New Zealand Region.

As a result of questions and feedback following the presentation, the HWG will update the FTW-MAG FAQs, and they will make some minor modifications within the documentation text to improve clarity for medical professional-users (as suggested by those who participated).

The full presentation is available for companies to use for information and can be downloaded from the Safer Together website (and send to their medical provider), or they can watch a recording of the presentation via the ANZSOM website.

The Working Group remains encouraged by the number of member companies who indicated in their annual member survey that they are using the Safer Together medical, including Chevron, who having updated their contracts in Sept. 2024, now have over 4000+ workers from their contract partners who have carried out the medical.
