Industry Safety Induction, one of the first standardisation programs adopted by our industry, was launched in 2016 and continues to be a requirement for New Starts joining our industry.

This 1-day course was built to help new entrants gain HSE awareness and learn about the standard of behaviour and safety culture in our industry.

The Industry Safety Induction is designed to:

  • Give HSE awareness of all personnel in the Australian Energy Production Industry to enable them to carry out their duties in the safest manner possible, thereby improving safety performance,
  • Define the standard of safe working behaviours that is expected of all personnel in the Industry, and
  • Drive consistency in how we communicate with New Starts in the industry about safety culture and how we manage the risks

It is an engaging opportunity to start a conversation about behavioural expectations - what the industry expects of the individual, and what the individual should expect from the industry in return in the way that we manage safety in our workplaces.

Developed to be the first touch point for people joining our industry, the ISI has an enormous reach, with over 22,000 people having completed the training to date. This means it now plays a pivotal role in helping to develop a strong and shared safety culture across our entire industry.

Guided by our principles to standardise and simplify, the content of this induction has recently been updated and work continues in identifying opportunities to streamline and remove duplication in inductions.
