Late last year, our WA/NT Safety Leaders Group (SLG) collectively agreed to attend a Contain It session to experience the major accident hazards awareness course firsthand – and 20 of our industry’s most senior leaders gathered in Perth to demonstrate their commitment to preventing Major Accident Events.
Hosted by our training partner ERGT at their Perth training centre, during the demonstration SLG members experienced a visceral reminder of the effects of a hydrocarbon release. They heard the roar, felt the heat and saw the flames – observing the mechanisms and the impacts of process safety release in a controlled environment.
On reflection, the SLG agreed that experiencing Contain It training is important for workers in various roles our Industry and agreed to increase their oversight of this Program by elevating it to High-Priority status.
Everyone has a role to play in maintaining process safety, and everyone in our industry is affected by process safety – the target audience for this training includes a broad range of job roles such as:
- Senior management/ business leaders,
- Operations, project delivery and maintenance personnel,
- Safety representatives,
- Personnel supporting maintenance activities, and
- Personnel involved in the hydrocarbon industry seeking to increase their awareness of process safety.
