Safer Together has released Revision 6 of the Common Industry Competencies (CIC) Specification.
First released in 2017, the CIC Specification defines consistent requirements for training courses, competency outcomes and validity periods, removing confusion that undermines achieving good safety outcomes while also providing cost efficiency by removing inconsistencies and duplication in training requirements. The scope of application has evolved over time to now include both the Queensland Natural Gas Exploration & Production Industry and also the Western Australia / Northern Territory Oil and Gas Exploration & Production Industry.

The changes in Revision 6 of the Specification are of an editorial nature only, such as course codes updates to keep the Specification current - there has been no new elements added or existing elements deleted.
Peter Ridge (Halliburton), Qld CIC Implementation Team Lead, said “The uptake of the CIC Specification within our industry has been very satisfying. Having an accepted tool for standardisation now provides us with a platform to further assist all our members”.
“This year we aim to interact with the people who organise and administer training and help them with further implementation”.
To support members and provide a greater insight into required training and competency, the CIC Implementation Team will conduct a Lunch & Learn event with members in May 2022 to hear their views and discuss what is needed next.
