On December 1 2016 the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA) and the Plastics Industry Pipe Association (PIPA) held a seminar on the new Code of Practice (CoP) for Polyethylene (PE) Gathering Networks for the CSG Industry. Steve Williams from Safer Together presented at the seminar to explain the Industry Safety Induction and how the Competence and Behaviour Work Group (CBWG) is working to ensure the competence of all new starts in our Industry.
The CoP for PE Gathering Networks for the CSG Industry has been a major achievement for the AGPA and PIPA. APGA and PIPA have collaborated and shared information, helping to improve industry practices and, importantly, safety.
Version 4 of the CoP has now been completed and provides a significant opportunity to achieve risk-based cost savings (both capex and whole-of-life) in upstream networks. An essential component in the related design and risk assessment processes is the focus on the CSG competency of all staff involved in the design, construction, operations and maintenance of the networks, in addition to third-party design input as appropriate. Such competencies are critical for all personnel.
