Challenge

Hand and finger injuries remain one of the most common injury types across drilling and wellsite operations.

These injuries often occur during routine tasks such as handling equipment, guiding loads, conducting maintenance activities, and interacting with moving plant.

Solution

The Safer Together Rig Site Safety Working Group (RSSWG), with input from operators, contractors and service providers across the industry, has developed a guideline to promote a consistent industry approach to managing hand and finger safety and reinforcing hands-free work practices across rig site operations.

Result

The Hand and Finger Safety Guideline has been launched to support organisations to apply practical controls that reduce the likelihood of hand and finger injuries and encourage a culture where workers actively assess risks before placing their hands near loads, equipment or moving parts.
