With consideration to the future of Process Safety and the anticipated risks facing our industry, our WA/NT Process Safety Working Group gathered for a Forum in Perth in late July.
Claire Ross (Process Safety Manager, Chevron), welcomed delegates before handing over to Ben Hudson (Chevron) for the Forum’s Safety Moment ‘Process Safety – Maintain It: Everybody Has a Part to Play’. From the frontline to the CEO, the consequences of everything we do (or don’t do) ends up at the frontline in the hands of those who maintain and support our assets right to the very end of field life and beyond. The video was an entrée to everything presented at the event, and a reminder of the long lifetime of our process safety assets - and of how our decisions today will flow into the future.
Following, with his presentation ‘Challenges in Late-Life Maintenance’ was Brayden Crain (General Manager, Contract Resources). The Australian Energy Production Industry is rapidly evolving, with all asset lifecycle stages in motion. Late-life asset management and decommissioning are now key focus areas—yet not new to the industry. Brayden’s presentation provided a contractor perspective on late life assets and emerging opportunities.
‘Cyber Security - An Emerging Threat for Leaders’ was presented next by Jawahar Kumar – who closed with a reminder that humans are the WEAKEST barrier in the Cybersecurity Ecosystem, and that awareness, training & knowledge make us the STRONGEST barrier.
A fascinating Decommissioning Case Study followed from Brandon Burgess (Regional Manager WA, Contract Resources) on a Line Flushing incident.
Following a short break, Cameron Wilson (Chevron) presented ‘Use of Technology for Fitness for Service Assessment’ - a look into how Chevron has used 3D scanning to enhance fitness for service assessment, and the benefits of this technology for integrity assessment.
‘AI in Process Safety Asset Management - A Challenge or a Threat?’ was next up from Cameron Stevens (Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct).
A Panel Discussion ‘Investigating Tomorrow’s Incidents Today’ followed, moderated by Andrew Woodhams (Jadestone Energy), and panelists Cameron Stevens, Brayden Crain, Ron Curley (Jadestone Energy), Jawahar Kumar (Shell), and Cameron Wilson (Chevron).
The last presentation of the day was an audience refresher on ‘Contain It - The Story So Far’, from Ralph Ellis (Wood).
Ben Hudson (Chevron) closed out the very successful event, thanking the presenters and delegates for their input, before everyone retired to a networking function.
Thanks to event sponsor Chevron.
