When we visited CareFlight’s Northern Operations Hangar in Darwin following our Industry Safety Forum in June, Svitzer’s Antony Shaw offered CareFlight the use of Svitzer’s tug Macquarie for a helicopter emergency evacuation training drill.
CareFlight works closely with government and community partners to improve patient outcomes for Territorians, particularly those in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and provides advanced aeromedical services and training across Australia – including to the oil and gas sector.
Following our site visit in June, Tom Abraham (Port Manager Darwin, Svitzer), Kurt Pride (Chief Aircrew Officer, CareFlight) and Antony Shaw (Acting Head of Marine Standards, Svitzer), and the rest of the Svitzer Darwin team worked together to bring this incredible opportunity to fruition in rapid time - an impressive collaborative feat.
A special acknowledgement of the work of the Svitzer Macquarie crew for their professionalism in the process: Lawrie Major (Master), Sebastian Lobley (Trainee Master), Frank Brown (Engineer), Paul East (Rating), and Emma Jolley (Operations Superintendent).
In all – an incredibly successful training exercise for both the CareFlight and Svitzer crews, representing a fantastic opportunity for the Svitzer Macquarie crew to hone their safety skills, and to put into practice their rescue procedure training safely.
Safer Together is delighted to be the conduit in bringing these two exceptional members together, with a great outcome for the NT community.
We are Stronger and Safer Together.
