From 1 May 2018 the cost of the Industry Safety Induction (ISI) is reduced by $100 per participant for members of Safer Together. People who have worked in the Queensland Natural Gas E&P Industry for more than 12 months in the last 2 years will now be able to complete an Experienced Worker Declaration Form as evidence that they are not required to undertake the ISI prior to starting work.
From July 1 2016, all New Starts have been required to satisfactorily complete ISI training prior to working on the development or operation of Facilities in the Queensland Natural Gas E&P Industry. As the ISI is now more than 18 months old, the Competence and Behaviour Working Group (CBWG) commissioned a detailed review of the initiative. The changes to the ISI followed extensive consultation with many stakeholders during the Formal Review.
Ben Prain, Safety Manager at Arrow and past Leader of the CBWG’s ISI Team is happy with the outcome.
“Experience in other Industries shows us that ‘tick a box’ induction programs deliver no real benefit. We have to be sure that our Industry induction is high quality. This, in turn, requires that the commercial model for continuing to deliver a high quality product is sustainable. We are in the very fortunate position that Industry has seen the value in this course. Attendance is good. So we are able to revise our commercial model to reduce the price for members”.
Nic Andrews, HSE And Training Manger at SWMS and current Leader of the CBWG’s ISI Team comments on the Experienced Worker Declaration Form.
“We got strong feedback that we were beginning to see different approaches to verifying that an experienced worker did not need to complete the ISI prior to starting work. We realised that we needed to standardise how this was done across the Industry. The Experienced Worker Declaration Form is a simple, robust tool for doing this”.
