Safer Together has released Rev 5 of the Common Industry Competencies (CIC) Specification. Read on to find out more about key changes and next steps for the CIC Project Team.
The CIC Specification defines consistent requirements for training courses, competency and validity periods, removing confusion that has the potential to hurt people, while providing cost efficiency by removing duplication in training requirements.
The key changes in Rev 5 of the Specification are:
- Chain of Responsibility - new national competencies included
- Fatigue Management – new national competencies included
- Drivers and Schedulers are now covered.
Access the updated CIC Specification here.
A detailed Launch Kit and FAQs have been developed to help Safer Together members implement the requirements of the CIC Specification.
Peter Ridge (Halliburton), Qld CIC Project Lead, said “It is great to see our leaders come together and commit their organisations in the interest of standardisation. The new revised version of CIC Specification will continue to provide commonly accepted competencies across the industry and make the training and competency process easier for everyone”.
Implementing the CIC Specification will be driven by incorporating its requirements into Safety Management Systems that apply to Facilities in the Western Australia, Northern Territory & Queensland Oil & Gas E&P Industry. To guide this implementation, ‘Facilities’ include geological survey, well sites, gathering networks, processing plant, water treatment plants, pipelines.
To support members and to assist in defining the 2021 CIC work program, the CIC Project Team will survey members in November to hear their views on what is needed next.
