The Marine industry gathered in Perth in October for their final Forum for 2024, focussing on Decommissioning Activities and Line of Fire.

Following a warm welcome from the Marine Working Group's Chairman Harbinder Mann (MMA Offshore), Aaron Barbetti (Sea1 Offshore) and Colin Dismuke (Delmar Systems) commenced the program with a presentation on Line of Fire Learning and Sharing - Anchor Handling Operations, and an incident on Part-Breakage of Permanent Chaser Pennant (PCP) – with findings that generated lots of audience questions.  Aaron and Colin followed this with a review of Quayside Mooring Line Failure incident and a Snapped Rope Incident – all generating robust engagement with the audience.

After a short break, Dr Francis Norman, (Centre of Decommissioning Australia) presented Decommissioning:  Safely Finishing What We Started.  Dr Norman focussed on the importance of building a sustainable decommissioning industry in Australia, the risks inherent in undertaking this activity, and the outlook this critical growth sector over the next 10 years.

Edward Rowley (Tetra Tech Coffey) followed with a presentation: Hazmat Considerations for End-of-Life Decommissioning – a fascinating presentation on planning, hazards (known and unknown) and risk mitigation in this space.

John Kaighin (Shell) wrapped up the event offering his thoughts and reflections about the day.
