Activities on the back decks of vessels in our industry are often separately controlled (e.g. by the vessel, operations or other parties). Having essential controls and interactions in place between separately controlled activities is vital to provide for a minimum level of risk to deck operators on offshore vessels.

A Safer Together Safe Deck Operations Specification is now available. Developed by the Marine Working Group, the Safe Deck Operations Specification is based on the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) paper “Deck Cargo Management Onboard Offshore Vessels”. The specification provides risk-based guidance, including best practices, on safe working practices involving deck cargo handling between shore base operations, offshore facilities and vessel operators.
