“I really cannot recommend it highly enough - it will improve the way our teams are managed, and how our guys provide leadership, which will ultimately benefit the company in the future.” - GR Production Services Frontline Leadership Training Pilot program participant.
Better, more effective, and more proactive supervisors result in better safety performance, which in turn results in better business performance.
After years in development, we are pleased to have completed our first two Pilot Frontline Leadership Training (FLT) courses in Brisbane and Perth in July, representing both operator and contractor companies, and bringing a diversity of life and work experience to the pilot courses.
Members of the FLT project team, Dirk Faveere (ConocoPhillips) and Phil Hollywood (Concept Resources) attended the Brisbane Pilot, with Chris Ratajczak (VP Australia and New Zealand, Subsea7) attending in Perth – all providing participants with a synopsis of the history of FLT to date, and offering their time for a Q&A session; providing participants with the opportunity to ask industry senior leaders about their leadership journey, and asking them about some of their key learning moments and opportunities – a fantastic learning opportunity for the senior leaders and FLT participants both.
The response from participants has been overwhelmingly positive:
“This was a great course that was led by some engaging and knowledgeable facilitators. Content was a good introduction for those that transition into their first leadership role from being part of the team. It’s also for those who’ve been in these roles for longer, to refine their skillset and improve their leadership toolbox.” Mick Lee, ConocoPhillips.
“I finished the Safety Leadership Course with Safer Together today. I am not normally a 'course' person as sometimes I find them to be done just for the sake of it, but the leadership course provided over the past two days was fantastic. I believe all our supervisors and even leading hands, or those who management believe would be suitable for leadership roles in the future should do this course. Great tools where shared on the course on how to deal with different situations and I know we certainly benefited from the course, especially with starting a supervisory role tomorrow. I really cannot recommend it enough - it will improve the way our teams are managed and how our guys provide leadership which will ultimately benefit the company in the future.” GR Production Services Participant.
“This course drives clear direction and purpose for a leader by praising and celebrating positive behaviours and being open and vulnerable to having difficult conversations, and by being approachable and with a growth mindset when delivering and receiving feedback.” Anonymous Participant.
The lessons in leadership participants received during the training will put them in a better, more empowered position to ensure better day-to-day communications with their team, to lay the foundations of a strong and positive safety culture, and will ultimately make our industry a safer place to be.
We would like to acknowledge the high-quality course facilitation from Karissa Cameron (Lead with Purpose) and Helen Reid.
The project team continue to work towards a Q4 2024 launch of Frontline Leadership Training.
