At our Health Safety Environment Representative (HSER) Forum in June, HSERs let us know that one of their areas of greatest concern was Process Safety, so the HSER Project Team responded with August’s virtual HSER Lunch & Learn – Focussing on Process Safety.

Presenter Andrew Woodhams (Process Safety Technical Authority, Jadestone Energy and Safer Together WA/NT Process Safety Working Group member) has a deep-seated personal interest in promoting more effective communication around Process Safety, and in this presentation, he shared what he feels have been the most useful and practical lessons for process safety management that HSERs can make use of, including deep personal reflection and awareness.

“The price of greatness is responsibility” – Winston Churchill (1874 – 1965)

With a virtual audience representing 16 member companies, and supported by HSER Project Team representatives, Jenna Frzop (INPEX) and Emma Gauld (Monadelphous) the brief session generated some fantastic discussion, including in response to the question "What do you want to get out of your HSER role?":

"To speak up on behalf of my workgroup and to give a voice to others who have the knowledge and experience with process safety, but perhaps not the wherewithal to engage management."

"To represent the workforce with their concerns about health and safety in the workplace."

"To protect people and the environment."

"To keep the people & plant safe. Collaboration with other work groups."
