As part of its ongoing commitment to engage with local businesses in the Northern Territory, the Safety Leaders Group (SLG) of Safer Together went to Darwin in October.
On 16 October, members of the SLG joined about 40 representatives of the local business community at a networking event hosted by Chamber of Commerce NT. David Boyle (Vice President Operations, Drilling & Supply Chain, ConocoPhillips) and Stuart Miles (Site Manager, TRACE Oil & Gas/Broadspectrum) spoke about opportunities for NT businesses in the oil and gas sector, the importance of safety in pursuing these opportunities, the role of Safer Together in working with NT businesses to improve safety, and why their respective companies are active and committed members of Safer Together.

The following morning a delegation from the SLG paid a visit to the Monadelphous yard, from where the Monadelphous team provide multi-disciplinary maintenance support services to the LNG industry. They then moved on to the Centurion transport and supply base, where CEO Justin Cardaci demonstrated an innovative solution developed by the Centurion team for preventing decoupling of trailers from prime movers.

In the afternoon, the Safety Leaders Group held a dual-location monthly meeting in Darwin and Perth. Local Darwin-based representatives from Monadelphous, Broadspectrum, Shell and INPEX came along to the meeting, shared their views on a range of issues, and welcomed the SLG’s commitment to continue hosting Safer Together meetings and events in the Northern Territory in 2020 in an effort to seek involvement of more companies in the local region.
