In July, the Qld. Land Transport Working Group hosted an Incident Review Panel in Brisbane - a jam-packed event with two detailed presentations on uncontrolled movement of a truck and trailer and another on microsleep related incidents.

Our event kicked off with two fantastic incident shares that generated detailed and insightful Q&A discussions on:

  1. lapses and rule breaking and how to deal with these threats in an otherwise well-designed control framework (related to the first incident): and
  2. the level of implementation and use of data from fatigue monitoring systems.

It was fantastic to see delegates in the room taking advantage of the 'brains trust' of our knowledgeable and experienced presenters in the room.

These incident shares were followed by presentations on two current initiatives:

  1. The uptake of the Safe Transport of Vehicular Passengers Guideline, which we know that several companies are attempting to make use of in the past year; and
  2. an update on the project to make revisions to the Light Vehicle and Heavy Vehicle Specifications to accommodate changes in the working environment that have occurred (since these documents were last updated).

Audience members were invited to participate in the teams currently working on these initiatives, or in the Working Group more generally, if they are interested in being actively involved in driving industry-wide improvements in road safety.
